The 15 most romantic destinations in the world

Nothing says love like “Honey, I’m taking you to…”

In honor of Valentine’s Day tomorrow, I’m thinking about my honey, my husband Sean. We don’t usually travel somewhere for Valentine’s Day, partly because February 15 is my youngest daughter’s birthday, so ever since she was born we stick close so we can celebrate with her.

However, that doesn’t mean that we don’t travel together! There’s nothing as wonderful as a getaway for just the two of you. In honor of that next twosome trip, I’ve put together a list of the 15 most romantic destinations around the world, both outside and inside the U.S. I’ve also included a few details about the types of activities you can enjoy together while you’re there!

Whether you're seeking a tropical paradise, a historic European dream, or just a cozy spot to escape the daily grind, these destinations have everything you need for love, laughter, and possibly a few misadventures to remember forever.

Paris, France – The city of love (and croissants!)

Ah, Paris! Where romance is in the air—and so is the scent of freshly baked croissants. Hold hands as you gaze at the Eiffel Tower, meander along the Seine pretending you're in a rom-com. Take a guided tour of the Louvre and debate which painting best represents your relationship, or explore the charming streets of Monmartre and leave a love note at the Wall of Love.

Maui, Hawaii – Sun, sand, and smooches

Maui is where romance and adventure go hand in hand—literally, because you’ll need to hold on tight while driving the winding Road to Hana. Relax on Wailea Beach, snorkel in Molokini Crater (where you’ll probably meet a few fish more photogenic than you), and attend a luau where you'll realize you’ll never move your hips like that hula dancer.

Amalfi Coast, Italy – Pasta, passion, and picturesque views

The Amalfi Coast is basically a postcard that came to life. Wander the colorful streets of Positano, pretend you’re a movie star in Capri, and eat your weight in pasta while debating whether gelato counts as a meal (it does). Just don’t try driving those cliffside roads unless your relationship can handle some high-stakes navigation arguments.

Charleston, South Carolina – Southern charm

Charleston is romance with a side of history and biscuits. Stroll the cobblestone streets, take a dreamy carriage ride, and whisper sweet nothings while sipping sweet tea. The historic homes will make you want to renovate your entire house, and the ghost tours might just have you clinging to each other a little tighter.

Maldives – Luxury, love, and no responsibilities

If you’re looking for peak romance (and an excuse to completely ignore your emails), the Maldives is the place to be. Overwater bungalows? Check. Crystal-clear waters? Check. Private beaches where you can reenact scenes from a Nicholas Sparks novel? Double check. It’s the perfect place to do nothing except bask in each other’s company (and sunscreen).

Seattle, Washington – Kisses and cozy vibes

Seattle is for lovers—especially those who appreciate a good latte. Watch the sunset from the Space Needle, snuggle up on the Seattle Great Wheel, and pick out goodies at Pike Place Market for the perfect picnic. Just don’t forget your raincoat, because romance in Seattle often comes with a side of drizzle.

Kyoto, Japan – Temples, tea, and tranquility

If you and your partner are looking for zen (or just an excuse to wear a kimono), Kyoto is the ultimate romantic retreat. Walk through the mesmerizing Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, visit golden temples, and experience a traditional tea ceremony—where you’ll try to sit gracefully on a tatami mat but probably end up with a leg cramp.

Lake Superior, Michigan – Lighthouses, love, and log cabins

Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state, which means plenty of dreamy views and Instagram-worthy moments. Climb the Point Iroquois Light Station for sweeping views, or head to Hiawatha National Forest for hiking, biking, or camping under the stars. Just make sure to pack bug spray—because nothing kills romance like a mosquito attack.

Bora Bora – Overwater bungalows and over-the-top romance

Bora Bora is where romance goes to level up. Stay in an overwater bungalow, go snorkeling with tropical fish who will definitely photobomb your selfies, and enjoy candlelit dinners on the beach. If paradise had a VIP section, it would be Bora Bora.

New York City – Romance in the fast lane

New York offers endless romantic possibilities—if you don’t mind dodging tourists. Stroll through Central Park, catch a Broadway show, and dine at a fancy restaurant where the bill will make you question your life choices. Cap it all off with a kiss on top of the Empire State Building for the full movie moment.

Galway, Ireland – Music & misty mornings

Galway is like stepping into a fairytale—if your fairytale includes live music in cozy pubs and misty walks along the Wild Atlantic Way. Explore the Latin Quarter, visit the stunning Cliffs of Moher, and fall in love all over again to the sound of traditional Irish fiddles.

Kennebunk, Maine – Lobsters & long walks on the beach

Kennebunk is perfect for couples who want coastal charm with a side of lobster rolls. Stay at the White Barn Inn for a romantic spa retreat, cycle through scenic seaside roads, and end the day with a sunset stroll along Goose Rocks Beach. Just be prepared for seagulls who think your seafood dinner should be shared.

Venice, Italy – Gondolas & gelato

Venice is what happens when romance meets water. Glide through the canals on a gondola, explore St. Mark’s Basilica, and indulge in an obscene amount of gelato. Getting lost in the winding streets is inevitable—but hey, it just means more time for hand-holding and spontaneous kisses.

Carmel-by-the-Sea, California – A fairytale by the ocean

This charming town is like stepping into a storybook, complete with fairytale cottages and an artsy vibe. Browse the galleries, sip wine at a local tasting room, and watch the sunset over a dreamy white-sand beach. Bonus: It’s one of the most dog-friendly towns in America, so even your furry third wheel can join in on the romance.

Bali, Indonesia – Serenity and stunning scenery

Bali is where romance meets adventure. Explore lush rice terraces, take a sunrise trek up Mount Batur, and unwind at a beachfront spa. Whether you’re feeding your soul in a spiritual retreat or just feeding each other fresh tropical fruit, Bali is the ultimate destination for couples who want a little bit of everything.

From the glittering lights of New York to the serene beaches of the Maldives, these destinations prove that love is best celebrated making memories together. Whether you're planning a honeymoon, anniversary, or just a well-earned romantic escape, these spots promise unforgettable experiences—and maybe even a few funny travel stories to tell for years to come. Let me know how I can help you with your next twosome travel adventure!
